Jr Kindergarten students stretch and grow as they acquire the skills they’ll need to be successful in Kindergarten. Social emotional development blossoms through friendly group play and healthy problem solving. We support social emotional learning through our Zones of Regulation curriculum focused on self-regulation, paired with opportunities for prayerful reflection through the Stories of God’s Love curriculum and opportunities to visit the Prayer Corner in each classroom.
Teachers facilitate structured learning through stimulating classroom themes, projects and centers balanced with a continued emphasis on play-based learning opportunities. Teachers emphasize budding independence and carefully cultivate executive functioning skills for Kindergarten readiness. Jr Kindergarten also expands on early literacy skills and phonics while focusing particular attention on fine motor skill development, including early handwriting skills, letter recognition and formation, and letter sound identification. Early STEM skills are expanded through hands-on manipulatives and simple science experiments. Our instruction is guided by the Handwriting Without Tears and Rush Neurobehavioral Center Executive Function curricula. Our students are known and honored through our focus on the development of the whole child, and they learn of God’s unconditional love for them in a developmentally appropriate Catholic preschool setting rooted in our Christian faith. We work hard to ensure that Jr. Kindergarten students have opportunities to stretch their wings and build their confidence in our classrooms as they prepare for the elementary setting. Teachers focus on the importance of a strong home-school relationship and differentiate where needed to meet the educational needs of all students. When operating from this space of safe and joyful attachment, children’s curiosity and capacity for learning is boundless.
